During that time, attorney Matthew DePerno and his client, Antrim County resident William Bailey, held a press conference with supporters, one day before Antrim County Circuit Judge Kevin Elsenheimer made a decision in the case in which Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson intervened.

The attorney argued that forensic images, which followed a judge-approved forensic audit of Antrim County election results, voting machines, and software last December, suggested multiple possibilities for errors with ballot tabulation, and he called for a statewide audit of the election.

“It’s nearly impossible to uncover fraud unless you have an actual audit of the ballots,” DePerno said after he claimed his team was able to flip votes. At the time, he said his team also made new discoveries.

There were initial signs that President Joe Biden would be the winner in Antrim County, a Republican-leaning county in Northern Michigan with about 23,000 people. However, tabulation errors were quickly discovered, and Trump was declared the winner once they were corrected. Human error resulting from a failure to update software across the county has been blamed by state and county officials. Bailey and DePerno, however, believed that Dominion Voting Systems machines could have been manipulated according to a lawsuit that initially related to marijuana retailer proposals in the area.

Bailey and DePerno engaged Allied Security Operations Group, a cybersecurity firm based in Dallas, to conduct a “forensic audit” on the Dominion machines on Dec. 6. According to ASOG’s report then, the Dominion machines were “intentionally and purposefully designed with inherent errors to create systemic fraud and influence election results.”

Today, DePerno is running for Michigan Attorney General.

In a campaign call on Wednesday, Donald Trump praised the “explosive” lawsuit pertaining to the 2020 elections.

Detroit News reports that Trump spoke for about five minutes during a telephone town hall event for DePerno, the man who is spearheading the litigation.

“The mistake had to be corrected,” Trump stated. “We caught them. And they said, ‘Well, we made a little mistake.’ It wasn’t a mistake at all. It was being caught.”

An election result battle erupted in Antrim County, a north Michigan jurisdiction with about 23,000 residents, in a lawsuit in which DePerno took the lead against officials. His lawsuit initially centered on a proposal for a local marijuana retailer. The two alleged that the election machines of Antrim County had been hacked, resulting in different results from those initially showing President Joe Biden winning. There were some tabulation errors, but they were quickly corrected, and once they were sorted out, Trump won.

Officials from the state and county blame human error, a failure to update software correctly across the county, for the incident. Kevin Elsenheimer, the judge on the 13th Circuit Court, dismissed the case last year after allowing the plaintiffs to conduct a “forensic audit” of the Dominion Voting Systems machines in the county by Dec. 6, 2020. John Poulos, the CEO of Dominion Resources, blasted the results in Michigan lawmakers, testifying that the findings were “categorically false” and were released by an “ill-informed group.” His company has sued for defamation more than once since the 2020 election.

Although the lawsuit has been thrown out, DePerno appealed, and there was a debate last week about whether there needs to be more audits. Ahead of this weekend’s Republican convention in Michigan, DePerno has been advertising the litigation.
